Cahoon Society

Membership in this select group is a special way of giving to the museum and becoming more actively involved in its growth and well-being. The most intriguing aspect of belonging to the Cahoon Society is that $500 of each member’s (or couple’s) annual donation of $1,500 is set aside to buy a new artwork for the museum’s permanent collection. Once a year, the museum  holds a dinner to honor society members and to present three artworks for their consideration. Members then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece, which will then be purchased with the pooled monies in the society’s acquisition fund. Members of the society also receive pictures and descriptions of the works beforehand, so they may, if necessary, vote in absentia.

Of course, the greater part of Cahoon Society membership donations will be used to help maintain our wonderful 1775 building and permanent collection, present a half-dozen or more exceptional exhibitions a year and cover the not inconsiderable day-to-day expenses of operating a museum. Most importantly, over time, we will build a base of personal and financial support that will assure a very bright future for the Cahoon Museum.

Exhibition Sponsorship

Every season the Museum mounts between six and eight special exhibitions ranging from the work of Cape artists, to historical shows on various aspects of American art, to specials artist solo exhibitions. These exhibitions are highly popular and well attended by hundreds of visitors to our galleries. Consider becoming an exhibition sponsor and assist us in underwriting the costs of these popular shows.  Sponsors receive recognition in an article in our quarterly newsletter, The Spyglass, printed recognition in the galleries and on the exhibition post card, and invitation to exhibition opening receptions. Sponsorship is also an ideal way for businesses to achieve name recognition with the highly desirable demographic of museum goers. Sponsorships vary between $500 up to $2,500. Building Campaign

A Legacy from the Past... A Vision for the Future Since the founding of the Cahoon Museum of American Art in 1984 it has grown and thrived.  Due to its growth and success, however the museum as outgrown its space; and it has now developed plans for a much needed addition that will blend beautifully with the existing building and provide new and modern display areas, a state of the art storage facility for its collections and a fully equipped classroom for its courses for children and adults.  The addition will also give convenient access to all floors of both the historic building and the new wing as well as a welcoming new entry to the museum and much improved parking and landscaping.
	In order to fully realize these improvements as well as maintain our high quality of curation and services we need your support. With your financial support we can expand our calendar of exhibitions and programs as well as our array of services and activities, with the same level of excellence for which the Cahoon Museum of American Art is known.
